Mortgage Interest Rates Today

Today, Friday, January 5, 2024, the average interest rate for a standard 30-year mortgage is 7.09%. This rate is a little higher than it was last week. And if you're thinking about refinancing your mortgage, the average rate for that is now 7.23%, which has also increased slightly from the previous week.

Buyer’s Vs. Seller’s Market Index Score

Our Buyer-Seller Index remains unchanged at 58 today. Mortgage interest rates have ticked up slightly, increasing by just 3 basis points since yesterday. Despite this minor rise in rates, the overall dynamics of the market haven't shifted significantly. We are still in a seller's market, primarily due to the low number of homes available for sale. This means that sellers are still in a favorable position, although the market is not as heavily skewed towards them as it could be in a stronger seller's market. As always, this 58 score is a broad indicator of the national market, and local market conditions might vary. We'll keep tracking these subtle changes in interest rates and housing inventory to keep you informed about the latest trends and shifts in the housing market as 2024 unfolds.

Daily Homeowner Tip

Why not start the year by learning a new DIY (Do-It-Yourself) skill? It's a great way to become more independent and can save you money on small repairs around the house. You could try your hand at basic plumbing, like fixing a leaky faucet. Or, learn how to paint a room for a fresh, new look. Maybe you're interested in carpentry skills, like fixing a loose door hinge or making simple shelves. Not only does learning these skills give you a sense of accomplishment, but it also means you don't always have to call a professional for small fixes. There are lots of online tutorials, classes, and books to help you get started. Plus, it's a fun and useful way to spend some of your free time. Who knows, you might discover a hidden talent!

That’s all we have for Today!
